Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has stated that his strategic changes swung the match in their favour during their 2–1 recovery victory over Berekum Chelsea on Sunday.
The league leaders overturned a first-half deficit in Tarkwa, with second-half goals from Amo Mensah and Salim Adams sealing the win and extending their advantage at the top of the Ghana Premier League table.
Reflecting on the performance, Tanko felt his side had played well even before falling behind.
“We controlled the game in the first half,” he said after the game. “We won many duels and second balls, created chances, but unfortunately, we could not score. The goal against us was also a result of our mistake.”
Chasing the game after the break, Tanko introduced returning defender Fatawu Sulemana for Paul Yeboah at left-back, while Kingsley Braye replaced forward Kelvin Nkrumah. The substitutions quickly shifted things.
Amo Mensah powered in a header to level the score before Salim Adams fired home the winner to complete the turnaround.
“In the second half, we spoke to the players and made two changes,” Tanko added. “I think the team responded well to the changes we made, and we deservedly got the goals.”
The victory lifts Medeama to 26 points, two clear at the summit. The Yellow and Mauves will now turn their attention to their next fixture which is an away clash against defending champions Bibiani Goldstars.
