Asante Kotoko Communications Director, Samuel Sarfo Duku, has painted a bleak picture of the financial state of Ghanaian club football, admitting that player transfers have become the only reliable source of income for clubs battling economic hardship and dwindling sponsorship.

In an interview with Luv FM in Kumasi, Duku revealed that the harsh economic climate and lack of corporate backing have forced clubs to rely heavily on selling players abroad as a means of survival.

“Let me be frank with you — the only motivation left in our game today is to get an opportunity to sell one or two players outside,” he said. “Otherwise, a time will come when clubs will have to beg to raise funds to run their operations.”

Duku lamented that low matchday revenue, weak fan turnout, and the absence of consistent sponsorship deals have made it increasingly difficult for Ghanaian clubs to remain financially stable.

He further emphasized that without structural reforms and greater investment in local football, the sustainability of clubs across the country will continue to hang in the balance.
