Former Elmina Sharks striker Richard Atikah has sadly passed away, the club has confirmed. The legendary forward reportedly died over the weekend, sending shockwaves through the Elmina Sharks community and Ghanaian football circles.
Confirming the news in an emotional tribute, the club wrote:
“We are heartbroken by the passing of Richard Atikah, our former top scorer and a true Elmina Sharks legend. Your goals, passion and love for the badge will never be forgotten. Rest in perfect peace, champ. Our deepest condolences to the family, friends and the entire Elmina Sharks FC family.”
Atikah was a central figure in the formative years of Elmina Sharks, playing a pivotal role in the club’s rise through the ranks. His goals were instrumental in securing promotion ahead of the 2008/09 season, a milestone that helped shape the club’s identity and future ambitions.
Renowned for his consistency and eye for goal, Atikah emerged as the club’s top scorer during their time in the lower divisions and later represented Elmina Sharks in the Ghana Premier League, where he continued to leave his mark with committed and spirited performances.
Although he never earned a call-up to the Ghana national team, Richard Atikah achieved cult-hero status in Elmina, winning the hearts of fans with his passion, dedication, and loyalty to the Sharks’ badge.
His passing is a huge loss to the club and the local football community, but his legacy—etched in goals, memories, and history—will live on at Elmina Sharks. Rest in peace, legend.
