The Communications Director of Accra Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, has criticized security officers on duty for failing to fulfill their responsibilities during their Ghana Premier League Matchday 23 clash against Young Apostles at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Hearts of Oak have been indicted for violating Article 8(e) of the GFA Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols, 2025, and Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Ghana Premier League Regulations, 2019.
Findings reveal that the Phobians reportedly permitted unaccredited fans into the Safe Zone, an area strictly designated for credentialed personnels.
Speaking to Max FM, Kwame Opare Addo inquired about the rationale behind the steps not being followed by the security officers during the pre-match technical meeting, which in the end caused the club to be charged.
“We all agreed where they would be stationed, especially in the safe zone area. Even before the games started, we all agreed that before the games, during the games and after the games, after the team buses and club officials have left the safe zone, then the security can also walk away.
“But we realized that before the game, they were preventing a lot of people, everybody, without accreditation, from going in there, which was specifically what we discussed at the time at the pre-match meeting and it was spot on.
"But at the end of the game, how come the security allowed a section of some individuals to walk in there with their drums and all of that is of concern to us. I think the security left their post before what was agreed at the pre-match," he point out.
Hearts of Oak have until today (Tuesday), March 11, 2025, to reply formally to the charges.
