Good recruitment is a huge part of football as signing the wrong players can be hugely detrimental to a team, as well as an enormous source of embarrassment for years to come.
Here, we have compiled a list of seven terrible signings to don the famous red jersey. In no particular order…
Adingra Bidodane Moussa
The burly Ivorian striker was sacked just a week after he was unveiled as the club's new signing on a 3-year-deal.
Kjetil Zacchariasen admitted he had never seen Moussa play live before his arrival, so we can only guess the former Kotoko manager was convinced the player had something special after watching a series of YouTube videos, only showing the striker's promise, and not his faults, or an amazing sales pitch from his agent.
George Abege
The Ugandan was sacked just four months after joining the Porcupine Warriors from the Kenyan outfit Kariobangi Sharks. He could only make three competitive appearances for the Kumasi club and could not register a goal.
When Abege arrived, it looked like Kotoko had sorted their goalscoring woes for the foreseeable future, but he proved to be one of the biggest flops at Kotoko in recent history.
Alexis Didi Arnold
Forgotten by most given that his stay in the Ghanaian Premier League was so brief, Kotoko fans probably wish they could forget about Alexis Didi Arnold.
The Ivorian international came with a reputation as a fierce tackling midfielder when he first arrived. He didn't live up to expectation at Kotoko, nor did he when he subsequently departed with just three appearances.
Abdul Latif Anabila
The Abdul Latif Anabila of Ashantigold and the Abdul Latif Anabila of Kotoko could not have been more contrasting players.
Anabila epitomises the word ‘flop’ at Kotoko after an unconvincing year with the Porcupine Warriors. He not only appeared too light to hack the character to play for a big club, the midfielder was unwilling to improve, therefore incapable of making a difference when given game time.
Kotoko have had their fair share of frustrating players; some with all the talent in the world and Anabila, who currently plays for Bechem United, tops that list.
He is now an integral and prolific player for Bechem United, that one-year spell at Kotoko being an anomalous blip in his career.
Evans Adomako
Evans Adomako was never going to trouble the top spots in our list of Kotoko's worst ever signings considering he arrived at the club on a free transfer... but he was pretty out of place.
The former Phar Rangers man failed to glitter in the two seasons that he stayed with the Porcupine Warriors. He has been farmed out to Karela United ahead of the 2022/23 season.
In all honesty it's a travesty he left the club with a Premier League winner's medal.
Solomon Sarfo Taylor
Gone is the player who was tearing defences apart with ease at Karela United, and in his place stood a striker completely bereft of ideas who genuinely just does seem to have the stomach for the fight.
Taylor may yet come good at Kotoko, but let's be honest - it's highly unlikely. We'll probably never know what caused his sudden drop in form, but he undoubtedly falls into the category of one of Kotoko's worst-ever signings.
Emmanuel Keyekeh
The play-maker arrived at Kotoko as one of the most promising new stars after some glorious seasons with Karela United. He was a classy player who heightened the expectations of the Kotoko faithful.
But his two seasons at the club was beset by injury problems that saw seen him struggle for game time even under two different managers. He was released at the end of the 2021/22 season and has since joined Samartex FC.
