Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Frederick Ansah Botchway has expressed concern over the declining competitiveness of the Ghana Premier League, suggesting that standards have dropped compared to previous years.
Drawing from his playing experience, Botchway compared the current state of the Ghanaian top flight with the Zimbabwean league, where he believes the level of competition remains strong.
“Currently, I think their league is there. It is very, very good, and the competition is there,” he told GhanaWeb.
Reflecting on his time at Hearts of Oak, the midfielder noted that the league was far more competitive during his playing days.
“Like my time when I was in Hearts of Oak, the competition was there, the level was high. Compared to them, it’s okay, but my time in Hearts of Oak, the competition was very high compared to now,” he added.
Botchway enjoyed a successful spell with Hearts of Oak, winning the Ghana Premier League title, two FA Cups, as well as the Super Cup and President’s Cup under coach Samuel Boadu.
