Bechem United head coach Kobina Amissah has challenged his players to put their heavy defeat to Asante Kotoko behind them and refocus ahead of their Ghana Premier League Week 17 encounter against Berekum Chelsea.
The Hunters endured a difficult afternoon in Kumasi last weekend, suffering a crushing 6-0 loss to the Porcupine Warriors in their Week 16 fixture. Despite the humiliating scoreline, Amissah insists there were positives to take from the performance.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s match, the Bechem United trainer admitted the result was painful but defended his team’s overall display.
“It’s unfortunate we conceded six goals. I think the performance was encouraging. We saw some good passes and movement. In the first 15 minutes, we got some chances and we should have scored. But that’s football — if you don’t take your chances and the opponent takes theirs, you will be in trouble. The scoreline was bad, but the performance was not bad,” Amissah told Bechem United TV.
Amissah also revealed that the technical team has been working intensively on the players’ mentality in the aftermath of the defeat, stressing the importance of restoring confidence and belief within the squad.
“The boys are trying to get back to their winning mentality. So on Sunday, it will be a different game against Berekum Chelsea. We want to make the supporters happy by winning that particular match,” he added.
The Week 17 Ghana Premier League fixture between Berekum Chelsea and Bechem United is scheduled for Sunday, January 4, as the Hunters look to respond positively and get their campaign back on track.
