Accra Lions head coach Ibrahim Tanko has accused the officiating team of aiding Asante Kotoko in their narrow 1-0 victory during their Ghana Premier League clash on Sunday.
The match, held at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium, saw Albert Amoah score the decisive goal just minutes into the second half, securing three points for the Porcupine Warriors.
In his post-match comments, while not naming the referees directly, Tanko implied that questionable officiating played a significant role in the outcome of the game.
“We had a not-so-good first half, and it was 1-0 in the second half. Then we woke up,” he said. He added, “Definitely, in the second half, we played better. But, yeah, all of us saw what the three gentlemen did. Yeah, this is how the game ended.”
Tanko emphasized the importance of resilience, stating, “Being 1-0 down doesn't mean you have to just throw everything away. We believe in our system. So, definitely, like I said, the three gentlemen helped them. So, congratulations to Kotoko.”
With this defeat, Accra Lions currently sit 14th on the league table, having accumulated just four points from five matches with one win, one draw, and three losses. The Lions will look to bounce back as they prepare to host Berekum Chelsea on Friday, October 11, 2024.
