Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, has confirmed that outstanding qualification bonuses for players, technical staff and management of the Black Stars have not yet been paid following their success in reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Before the qualifiers resumed in 2025, an agreement was reached between the players and the management committee to split the bonus payments into two parts. Half of the money was to be paid at the start, with the remaining 50 per cent to be paid after Ghana secured qualification.

Although Ghana later confirmed their place at the World Cup, Adams revealed in an interview on Asempa FM that the second half of the payment is still outstanding.

“The qualification bonus is yet to be paid to the players. We agreed that 50 per cent would be paid initially, and the remaining 50 per cent after qualification. As we speak, that additional 50 per cent is yet to be paid,” he said.

He also disclosed that former head coach Otto Addo, who guided the team to qualification, is still waiting to receive the remainder of his bonus.

“Otto Addo qualified the team for the World Cup, and we are yet to pay him the additional 50 per cent of the qualification bonus,” he noted.

Adams added that members of the management committee are also affected and are yet to receive their share of the agreed payments.

"The management committee members have also not been paid. We agreed that they will be paid if qualification is secured, so since we have qualified, they will have to be paid as well," he added.

Ghana finished top of their qualifying group with 25 points to secure a place at the World Cup, marking their fifth appearance at the global tournament.
