Asante Kotoko midfielder Emmanuel Antwi has admitted the team is "deeply disappointed" in themselves after falling short in the race for the Ghana Premier League title.
In a candid reflection, Antwi didn’t mince words about the Porcupine Warriors underwhelming campaign, calling it a missed opportunity the entire squad regrets.
“We, the players, are a bit disappointed in ourselves,” Antwi told Kotoko media.
Kotoko, who came into the season with high expectations, struggled for consistency in some stages of the campaign, eventually slipping out of title contention, falling to 3rd with 58 points, five points behind champions Bibiani Gold Stars.
Antwi, a key figure in the Porcupine Warriors midfield engine, says the players take full responsibility for the outcome and owe the fans much better.
“We had set a target to win both the league and the FA Cup, so not winning the league is disappointing.”
With the FA Cup final looming, the midfielder says there’s still a chance to end the season on a high, but the pain of missing out on league glory will linger.
“But we are still in the FA Cup final, and we have one more game to make it up to the supporters.”
As Kotoko prepare to take on Golden Kick in the MTN FA Cup final scheduled for June 15, at the University of Ghana Stadium, all eyes will be on whether the Porcupines can salvage silverware from a season of mixed emotions.
