Tamale City head coach Hamza Mohammed says they would have qualified for the Ghana Premier League (GPL) long time if not because of the Anas exposé.
Tamale City have secured qualification to play in the Ghana Premier League, after winning the three way play-offs to replace demoted Ashanti Gold.
Anas exposé in 2018 brought Ghana football on its knees, when the investigative journalist exposed widespread corruption bedevilling the Ghanaian and African football.
The Ghana Football Association(GFA) was subsequent liquidated, before FIFA instituted a Normalization Committee to sanitize the Association.
Kurt Okraku was elected the GFA President in 2019 to finally set the ball rolling.
The domestic league fully resumed in the 2020/21 season, after the 2019/20 season was cancelled because of Covid-19.
Hamza Mohammed insists that if not because of the Anas exposé, Tamale City would have been in Ghana's top-flight long time ago.
"[This qualification] means a lot. Tamale City, since its inception, our intention was always to be in the Premier League," Hamza said.
“But for the Anas expose, I think we would have been four or five seasons in the Premier League. We were cruising until that thing happened. I think ever since, we had an opportunity to have the playoff against Nsoatreman, which we couldn’t."
“We had another one that we delivered and we’re in the Premier League…we will just prepare for it," he added.
