President of Liberia, George Oppong Weah has donated $10,000 to the family of deceased-Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu who sadly perished as a result of earthquake.
The 31 year old tragically passed away following an earthquake that hit Turkey on February 6, 2023.
After almost two weeks of being trapped under rubbles, his lifeless body was found at his apartment last Saturday and was officially confirmed dead.
The news was really hard to be accepted by the football world who emotionally paid tribute to Atsu, not only because of what he's done on the pitch but also his great contribution to humanity. He was really known with philanthropy.
Former Ghanaian footballers like Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, Baffour Gyan, Agyemang Badu, Haminu Dramani and more were all present at his family house couple of days ago to sign the book of condolence.
The latest renowned figure to mourn with the family is Liberian President George Oppong Weah- who also doubles as a former footballer, a great one for that matter having won the Ballon D'or and time African footballer of the year award on three occasions.
He sent a delegation led by ex- Ghana international Kwame Ayew to hand over a cheque of $10,000 to the family and expressed his deepest condolences to them in addition.
"I am deeply saddened to hear the devastating news of the passing of my neighbor, my small brother, and my young friend, the late Christian Atsu, who was a victim of the recent earthquake in Turkey."
"I knew him personally, and in his formative years in the game of soccer, I had the opportunity to interact with him with his early training.
"I would like to express my deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the bereaved family and to his friends everywhere for this irreplaceable loss.
"Rest In Peace, Small Brother.
"Dr. George Manneh Weah."
