Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has spoken ahead of their herculean clash against Egypt in the first leg of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Having arrived just three days ago in the city of Ismailia, the Queens have held series of training sessions under the light and will start early in order for quick adaptation to have them adequately prepared for the game.
Skipper Portia Boakye, Chantelle-Hlorkah Boye, Josephine Bonsu, Doris Boaduwaa, Susan Ama Duah, Grace Asantewaa, Jennifer Cudjoe all made the cut and are all looking really poised for the game.
While Ghana will be hoping for another AFCON spot after their heroics in the last edition, Egypt - who have also been growing faster in women football will be looking to win the tie and return to the continental showpiece.
In a pre-match interview with the GFA media team, the Swedish tactician said they had limited days to prepare but it isn’t excuse and prepared for the game coming up.
“It’s great to be back with the girls, it’s been too a long time since the great tournament that we had. We came together as a really strong group, we performed well on the pitch and we had so much fun off the pitch as well.
“We had like two days here for preparations for the first game so of course it’s a less time but it is what it is so no excuse. We have prepared the team in the best way. We have watched Egypt, how we think they are going to play and most importantly how we will play.
“We are a good team so we know can win especially over two games.”
The first leg is slated for Thursday, October 23, at the Ismailia-Suez Canal Stadium at 16:00GMT (4:00pm)
