Ghana head coach Otto Addo has provided an update on his squad’s injury situation ahead of the Black Stars crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic.
Speaking ahead of the matchday nine encounter, Addo admitted that his plans have been affected by injuries to several key players but said he remains confident in the quality of the players available.
"It’s always a loss if we have to replace players," he said. "But to be honest, we are in a lucky situation — we have a lot of good players. There are others who could have been brought in, but Brandon was accessible. He plays in Europe, and the last few weeks he’s been very, very good. He had a lot of assists, a lot of goals, and he played well, so he deserves to be here as well."
Addo also expressed sympathy for forward Inaki Williams, who will miss the match through injury, alongside long-term absentees Abdul Mumin and Ernest Nuamah.
"I’m really, really sorry for Inaki, and I hope that he gets well soon," Addo said. "Also, we have long-term injuries with Abdul Mumin and Ernest Nuamah. I’m just praying for them to get back because surely, when everyone is fit, it will make my work difficult in deciding who comes into the squad — but this is what we want. We want the best possible squad."
The Ghana boss believes the current situation has created healthy competition within the team, something he views as vital for maintaining standards.
"This is what we want," he added. "We are in a situation where we can replace an experienced top player like Inaki with another very good, in-form player like Brandon Thomas. That’s the kind of depth and hunger we need in this team."
