CAF, in partnership with Morocco’s Local Organising Committee (LOC), has unveiled a strict list of prohibited items for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, banning alcohol and laser pointers at all six host stadiums.

The measures aim to ensure a safe, fair, and family-friendly environment. CAF’s ban on laser pointers follows repeated incidents where fans used them to distract players, particularly goalkeepers.

“The use of laser pointers is a blatant form of cheating and a dangerous safety hazard. CAF is sending a clear message that there will be zero tolerance for any action that endangers players or undermines the integrity of the game,” a LOC official said.

In line with Moroccan law, alcohol, including bottles and cans is prohibited inside and around stadiums. Other banned items include weapons, pyrotechnics, large bags beyond approved sizes, and banners with political, religious, or offensive messages.

These restrictions are part of a wider security plan developed by CAF and Moroccan authorities, including extensive training for safety personnel. With stars like Mohamed Salah, Victor Osimhen, and Achraf Hakimi expected to feature, CAF’s priority is keeping the spotlight on football action at AFCON 2025.
