The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a $5,000 fine on Egypt following their Group Stage opener against Zimbabwe at the ongoing AFCON 2025 tournament.

The sanction was confirmed after members of the Egyptian squad and technical team failed to honour their mandatory media duties at full time. Instead of stopping to engage journalists for post-match interviews, the entire delegation walked straight past the press area, a move deemed a clear violation of the tournament's media regulations.

CAF’s Disciplinary Committee stated that the decision reflects its firm stance on enforcing competition rules, particularly those relating to transparency and media access.

In addition to the financial penalty, a formal warning has been issued to the seven-time African champions, with CAF stressing that harsher sanctions could follow should the incident be repeated, notably after Egypt’s upcoming Matchday Two clash with South Africa.

CAF reiterated that media interactions remain a key pillar of the competition framework, describing post-match interviews and mixed-zone obligations as essential for promoting fan engagement, accountability and the broader image of African football on the continental stage.
