Former Senegal national football team head coach Aliou Cissé has been appointed as the new manager of the Angola national football team, signing a four-year contract.

The 2022 CAF Coach of the Year takes up the role shortly after parting ways with the Libya national football team earlier this week, reportedly due to a salary dispute.

Cissé inherits an Angola side in need of rebuilding after failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and suffering a group-stage exit at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The highly respected tactician is best known for his success with Senegal, guiding the Teranga Lions to their first-ever AFCON title in 2021 after a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Egypt national football team. He also led Senegal to the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups, reaching the Round of 16 in Qatar.

At Angola, Cissé’s immediate task will be to secure qualification for the 2027 AFCON and build a competitive squad capable of making a deep run in the tournament.

The Palancas Negras will be hoping the experienced coach can replicate his success by bringing stability, structure, and tactical discipline to a team that has struggled for consistency on the continental stage.
