The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have appointed English-born professional football referee Mark Clattenburg as the head of the newly-created refereeing committee,

 

A well-chunk of referees who officiate in the Egyptian Premier League have incessantly been criticized in their way of officiating, with most of them coming under inexorable criticism.

 

Due to the attitude of certain referees - club officials have complained bitterly about refereeing decisions costing them points in the domestic league and thinks that poor officiating which referees are exhibiting will jeopardize the game in Egypt.

However, the EFA now hope that things could change in the various leagues with the addition of Clattenburg in charge of the referees, as he is considered one of the most highly-rated European referees of his generation.

 

Clattenburg is well-known among teeming Premier League fanatics - having officiated over 250 games in English football before leaving his position as EPL referee in 2017 to take up a role with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, replacing Howard Webb as the country's Head of Refereeing.

The 47-year-old had also refereed a number of notable matches, including the 2016 UEFA Champions League Final and the UEFA Euro 2016 Final.

 

“The association led by Gamal Allam have agreed to appoint Mark Clattenburg as the head of the referee development committee,” the EFA said in a statement.
