Nigeria head coach, Augustine Eguavoen has set his sights on securing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification berth as soon as possible.
The Super Eagles are currently topping Group D with 4 points after two games, and are set to face Libya in the third and fourth rounds of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Libya however sits at the bottom of the group with just one point.
Nigeria face the Mediterranean Knights - who are sitting bottom of the group with just one point in the first leg on Friday, October 11, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo before travelling to the Martyrs of Benina Stadium, located 19 kilometers from Libya’s second city, Benghazi for the second leg on Tuesday, October 15.
“We have to be practical about it: our best and surest route to the finals will be to pick up the six points in the matches with Libya," Eguavoen stated as quoted by Brila Sports.
“This will almost guarantee us a place in Morocco even before Matchday 5. We don’t want to be in any anxiety in the final stages of the campaign.
“There are possibilities and opportunities for us to seal qualification at the end of these two matches. We will do our best to take our chances and have the ticket in hand before the final round of games,” Eguavoen added.
The Super Eagles - three-time African champions began their qualifying campaign with a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic, followed by a draw against Rwanda.
Winning both matches against Libya would see Nigeria move to 10 points, placing them in a strong position to secure early qualification.
