Former Ghanaian striker Eric Bekoe has revealed that Egyptian media questioned why he was consistently overlooked for a Black Stars call-up, despite excelling in the Egyptian league.
Bekoe, who played for Petrojet SC between 2008 and 2011, enjoyed a prolific spell in Egypt, netting 65 goals in 80 appearances. His performances earned him recognition as one of the top foreign players in the league.
Speaking on Sporty Drive, Bekoe recounted an interview on Egyptian national TV, where journalists were puzzled by his exclusion from Ghana’s national team.
"I was interviewed on Egyptian national TV, where they asked why I wasn’t being called up by Ghana. They wondered if Ghana didn’t respect the Egyptian league because I was one of the best foreign players," Bekoe stated.
Despite his remarkable club form, Bekoe was rarely considered for the Black Stars, earning just one cap for Ghana. The 37-year-old, who also starred for Asante Kotoko, expressed his disappointment over the lack of recognition.
