The Eritrean National Football Federation (ENFF) has confirmed that the national team will take part in the qualifiers for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
ENFF President Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam revealed the decision in an interview with Cecafaonline on Tuesday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Rabat, Morocco.
“I can confirm that we have registered to play in the qualifiers for the 2027 AFCON and I believe we shall have a strong team because we currently have many players playing outside the African continent,” Andemariam said.

Eritrea have withdrawn from several AFCON and World Cup qualifying campaigns in recent years, but Andemariam said recent discussions with state authorities paved the way for their return.
“We have had positive discussions with the government and we are now prepared to take part in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers,” he added.
The qualifiers are scheduled to begin in March 2026, with tournament co-hosts Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda automatically exempt from the process.
Other CECAFA nations already registered include Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Djibouti and Somalia. A total of 21 teams are expected to progress from the qualifiers to join the three co-hosts at the finals.
