Former Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has stated that experience played a major role in Ghana's 3-0 defeat to Brazil at the 2006 World Cup.
“Experience was the difference in that game” and "inclined that the game’s outcome would have been different had Michael Essien played in the match," Gyan reflected on the game on X.
Essien was suspended for the Brazil match due to an accumulation of yellow cards in the group stage.
Goals from Ronaldo, Adriano and Ze Roberto ended Ghana's stay as the defending World Champions cruised to the next stage.
Gyan played a key role in the tournament as Ghana advanced to the Round of 16 in their maiden World Cup, however, Brazil turned the Black Stars honeymoon period sour as they crashed out of the competition.
