Ghana’s Black Stars left-back, Gideon Mensah, has voiced his belief that the team is prepared to take advantage of any possible slip-ups by Sudan in the final phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Black Stars' qualification hopes now hinge on Sudan’s results, as Ghana must rely on Sudan faltering in their remaining games against Niger and Angola. With the group stage nearing its conclusion, Ghana's path to AFCON in Morocco has become narrow and dependent on outside factors.
For Ghana to secure a spot, the equation is simple but daunting: they must win their last two matches, against Angola on November 15 in Luanda and Niger on November 18 at home in Accra, while hoping Sudan loses both of their matches. Even a single draw by Sudan would effectively end Ghana's hopes of qualifying.
After the Black Stars’ training session in Accra on Monday, Mensah emphasized the team’s resilience: “We are made for this. The journey is not always going to be smooth. We’ve come to a junction where we have to hope and work for ourselves.”
Mensah added that Ghana’s focus remains on winning their matches and seizing any opportunity if Sudan falters: “We are going to watch the game and see what will happen, but at the end of the day, the focus is to pick our six points, and anything that happens on the side, we are there for it.”
Currently, Ghana sits third in Group F with two points from four games, trailing Angola by ten points and Sudan by five, making the upcoming matches critical for their AFCON aspirations.
