Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson has admitted his disappointment after Ghana were held to a draw by South Africa in the first leg of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana let a two-goal lead slip as the match ended 2–2 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, February 8, 2026, leaving the Princesses with a tough task ahead of the return leg.

The Princesses looked in control after first-half goals from Agnes Yeboah and Linda Owusu Ansah put them on course for a home win.

However, South Africa showed strong character after the break as they scored twice to claim a valuable away draw that could be crucial in the tie.

Speaking after the match, Sampson said the team failed to protect a position they worked hard to achieve.

“I’m absolutely disappointed with the result. We wanted to keep a clean sheet against South Africa. So to lose concentration and concede two goals is disappointing,” he said.

The Black Princesses must now regroup and deliver a disciplined performance away from home on February 14 if they are to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
