The Burkina Faso Football Federation has reportedly initiated discussions with seasoned Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah regarding the possibility of taking charge of the country’s senior national team.
According to sources, initial conversations have already taken place as the federation considers options to reinforce the technical bench of the Stallions ahead of crucial upcoming international fixtures. The interest signals Burkina Faso’s ambition to appoint an experienced African tactician with a strong track record on the continental stage.
Appiah is currently the head coach of the Sudan national football team, where he has overseen an impressive resurgence. He steered Sudan to the knockout rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, surpassing expectations in a fiercely contested competition.
He also guided the Sudanese side to the semi-finals of the 2024 African Nations Championship, further cementing his reputation as a coach capable of building competitive teams even with limited resources.
The 65-year-old previously enjoyed a historic tenure with Ghana, leading the Ghana national football team to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and overseeing multiple Africa Cup of Nations campaigns.
While negotiations are believed to be at an early stage, a potential agreement could trigger significant changes within West African football. Neither federation has officially confirmed the reports, but further developments are expected in the coming weeks as Appiah’s future comes into sharper focus.
