Ghana's sole representative in this years group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup, Medeama SC could not stand the wrath of DR Congo's TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat.
Medeama SC gave glimpses of good omen of what they could do after they had taken the lead in the early showers of the game through Malik Akowuah, came to a halt as the five times Africa Champions came back from behind to score three.
Medeama SC started with their strong squad as it was expected from them with Muntari Tagoe being covered in post by Moses Sarpong, Paul Aidoo, Victor Ayireh and Francis Addo as the defensive wall of the team. Malik Akowuah played directly in front of the back four with Kwame Boahene and Eric Kwakwa on his far wide.
Mercurial midfielder Kwesi Donsu linked up play from midfield to attack being supported by Bismarck Oppong as the attacking midfielder right behind Abass Mohammed who played as the lone striker.
TP Mazembe were quick to come in the game after Medeama's early break through when experienced 29-year-old Rainford Calaba equalized with a sumptuous flying header to open up the game on the 15th minute.
Malian import, Salif Coulibaly put TP Mazembe in the lead for the first time in the game with a free header after coming close on a number of occasions on the 45th minutes when all was set and done for the first proceedings of the game.
Goalkeeper Muntari Tagoes further had to save the blushes of his side with a double reflex save from Rainford Calaba's audacious free kick and Roger Assale's rebound in the dying embers of the first half.
Immediately after recess, captain of the Congolese side, Kasusula, on the 47th mark missed a scary free kick wide away from Muntari Tagoe's near post to add up to their lead but Rainford Calaba had other ideas of beating the Medeama captain in post when he curled off a ball from the far left of his team's attack to catch Tagoe in his far post to increase the tally for Mazembe on the 69th minutes.
Medeama SC maintained their composure in the game to run the game away with a 3-1 defeat in Lubumbashi where Daniel Nii Adjei and Solomon Asante who travelled the full throttle of the game playing a significant part in TP Mazembe's victory.
Samuel Bio and Emmanuel Yeboah came on as substitutes in a moments of the game for Kwame Boahene and injured Abass Mohammed respectively but both had minimal impact in the game to prevent the Yellow and Mauves from losing. Medeama SC will wait at home in their next game in a fortnight time.
