The Inaugural African Football League (AFL) is poised to feature the highest-ranked football clubs across the African continent.
The primary objective is to showcase African club football and provide global football enthusiasts with an opportunity to witness the pinnacle of the sport within the continent.
A collaborative effort between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA, the inaugural edition of the AFL will see the participation of eight teams.
These select teams have been chosen from three distinct African Regional Blocks: the North Region, Central-West Region, and South-East Region.
Hailing from the North Region, three prominent clubs will be in the fray: Al Ahly Football Club from Egypt, Espérance Sportive de Tunis from Tunisia, and Wydad Athletic Club from Morocco.
Representing the Central-West Region, Nigeria's Enyimba Football Club and the Democratic Republic of Congo's Tout Puissant Mazembe will compete.
In the South-East Region, Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club from South Africa, Atlético Petróleos de Luanda from Angola, and Simba Sports Club from Tanzania are set to participate.
The draw for the Inaugural AFL competition is scheduled to be held in Cairo, Egypt, on September 2, 2023.
