Asante Kotoko’s communications director, Sarfo Duku, has voiced his disapproval of goalkeeper Mohammed Camara’s dismissal in their CAF Confederation Cup clash with Wydad Casablanca, describing the incident as “unsporting and unfortunate.”
Camara was shown a straight red card after rushing off his line to handle the ball outside the penalty area, denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity for the Moroccan side.
Though the move prevented what seemed a certain goal, it left Kotoko a man down and ultimately shifted the spark of the match.
While some fans hailed the Guinean shot-stopper’s action as a selfless, split-second sacrifice for his team, Duku saw it differently.
“The behaviour he [Mohammed Camara] put up there was unsporting and quite unfortunate because it could attract further sanctions from the football controlling body [CAF]. It’s bad,” he said.
The incident has divided opinion among supporters, with many torn between viewing Camara’s decision as a moment of defensive instinct or an avoidable lapse that cost Kotoko dearly.
