Andre Ayew is hopeful his first goal for NAC Breda will trigger a strong scoring run after the veteran forward finally opened his account in a thrilling 3–3 draw with Feyenoord.
The 36-year-old Ghana captain scored with a well-taken header, bringing an end to a nine-match wait for his maiden goal since joining the Dutch Eredivisie side as a free agent in January. The entertaining contest also saw fellow Ghanaian Kamal Sowah find the net.
Speaking to ESPN after the game, Ayew admitted the goal was an important moment but insisted he always believed it would eventually arrive.
“It’s always important to score goals as an offensive player, but sometimes you have to be patient and calm. I knew it was going to come,” he said.
“I was very focused on us winning games. I hope it is the first of many.”
The goal could not have come at a better time, with Otto Addo preparing to name his squad for Ghana’s upcoming international friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team later this month.
Ayew, who has earned more than 100 caps for the Ghana national football team, acknowledged that his experience helped him remain composed despite the wait for his first goal at the club.
“It was due, but with my experience I’m calm enough to know how football works. Sooner or later, when you do what you have to do on the pitch, it will come.”
With his first goal now secured, Ayew will be hoping it marks the beginning of a productive spell for both himself and NAC Breda as the season continues.
