Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has expressed relief after scoring his first goal for NAC Breda, ending a nine-game wait since joining the Eredivisie side as a free agent in January.
The 36-year-old forward scored with a header in Breda’s thrilling 3-3 draw against Feyenoord, a match that also saw fellow Ghanaian Kamal Sowah find the net.
Speaking after the game, Ayew said he remained confident the goal would come despite the wait. The experienced attacker added that his focus had been on helping the team win matches and hopes the strike will be the first of many.
"It's always important to score goals as an offensive player, but sometimes you have to be patient, calm. I knew it was going to come," he said. "I was very focused on us winning games. I hope it is the first of many," he told ESPN.
"It was due, but with my experience, I'm calm enough to know how football works. Sooner or later, when you do what you have to do on the pitch, it will come."
Ayew’s return to scoring form comes at a timely moment ahead of Ghana coach Otto Addo announcing his squad for upcoming friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team later this month.
