Antoine Semenyo has revealed he was targeted with racist abuse on Instagram after Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over Chelsea FC on Sunday.
The Ghana international played a key role in a strong performance in west London at Stamford Bridge, as Pep Guardiola’s side took advantage of a slip by Arsenal FC against AFC Bournemouth to pick up all three points.
The result moves Manchester City to within six points of Arsenal at the top of the table, with a game in hand. Attention is now turning to a major upcoming fixture at the Etihad Stadium, which teammate Jeremy Doku has described as a key match in the title race.
Despite the important win on the pitch, the focus has shifted to events off it after Semenyo shared that he received racist messages on social media following the match.
The 26-year-old, who joined Manchester City from Bournemouth in a £64 million move in January, has quickly become an important part of Pep Guardiola’s squad. He has added strength to City’s attack alongside fellow January signing Marc Guéhi, helping to boost the team’s attacking options.

However, a celebratory post shared by Semenyo after the game was later followed by a racist comment from a social media user.
The message came from an account named “@Investor_goodluck” and contained insulting and racist language aimed at criticising his performances.
Semenyo then posted a screenshot of the message on his Instagram story on Monday, bringing attention to the abuse.
“It’s started again,” suggesting that he is experiencing repeated incidents of similar abuse rather than a one-off case.
