Manchester City's transfer activity continues as they have successfully secured the services of Jeremy Baffour Doku, a Belgian winger with Ghanaian heritage, from Rennes for a fee of £55.4 million.
The reigning Treble champions have reached a five-year agreement with the 21-year-old, who has showcased his talents with 10 goals in 75 Ligue 1 appearances spanning three seasons.
Doku, boasting 16 caps for the Belgian national team, has opted to wear the number 11 shirt as he embarks on this new chapter of his career.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Doku remarked, "This is a momentous day for me, both personally and professionally. City stands as the pinnacle of world football, and joining their ranks is an honor."
Doku's signing solidifies Pep Guardiola's summer squad enhancements, coming after the arrivals of midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea for £25 million and former RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol for £77 million.
Before securing Doku's signature, other prominent English clubs like West Ham, Tottenham, and Chelsea had expressed interest in acquiring his services. Last season, he made a significant impact by netting seven goals in 35 games.
Doku's previous contract, signed when Rennes acquired him from Anderlecht for 26 million euros (£22.3 million) in October 2020, still had two years remaining. His rapid rise continued after making his international debut as a teenager.
Born in Antwerp, Belgium, Doku holds Ghanaian roots. He is the second child of parents David and Belinda, and he has one older brother and two younger sisters. David, his father, was once an athlete, while his brother Jefferson honed his skills in Anderlecht's youth academy.
