Kasim Adams, the Black Stars defender, has revealed that he had a range of top-tier European clubs to choose from when he was on the verge of leaving his former club Young Boys. However, he ultimately decided to join Hoffenheim.
After a successful spell in the Swiss League, where he made 69 appearances, Adams caught the attention of several elite clubs, including Newcastle United and former Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund.
However, Adams explained that he carefully evaluated his options and concluded that Hoffenheim would be the best fit for his career compared to the other clubs.
He cited the German club's project as a key factor in his decision-making, believing that the appropriate opportunity to play for a bigger team would come in due course.
"When I wanted to go to Hoffenheim from Young Boys. it was not only Hoffenheim who wanted me. I had Newcastle, I had Dortmund. I had Leverkusen as well but I chose to move to Hoffenheim because that was how I knew I could grow. Because I was in my early 20s so I still wanted to play more games to grow," he told MX24.
He further explained, "If I had moved to a bigger club, they would have seen me as a potential key player but they had lots of experienced players already.
"At Dortmund there was Hummels. I wanted to grow in Hoffenheim and it was good because they were playing the Champions League. I was aware the team had a project of buying young talented players that's why I chose to go to Hoffenheim. Because I knew I could grow from there and then move through the process to the next step in my career," he added.
Despite joining Hoffenheim in 2018, the 28-year-old has not seen significant playing time with the German club. Instead, he has spent the majority of his time on loan to clubs such as Fortuna Dusseldorf and FC Basel.
Adams was recently included in the Ghana squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Madagascar.
