Black Queens forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah says Ghana are embracing their historic clash with England with confidence rather than fear.

According to Boye-Hlorkah, who played for Women's Championship club Nottingham Forest, the team fully believes in its own qualities ahead of Tuesday’s friendly at St Mary’s Stadium, with Kickoff at 19:00 GMT.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the former Everton and London City Lionesses attacker stressed that Ghana would remain true to their identity, even against the reigning European champions.

“We can respect the opponent, but at the same time, we need to be ourselves. We are the Black Queens, and we need to do our thing,” she said. “If we do that, I think people will see our performance and our game in a positive way.”

Boye-Hlorkah described the mood in camp as one of excitement and assurance, rejecting any suggestion that Ghana might feel intimidated.

“We’re excited to play this game. We believe in our own qualities,” she noted. “You’ve mentioned other countries, but none of those countries are Ghana. We haven’t played England before, so it’s the first time the two nations will meet and we back ourselves.”

The forward pointed to the squad’s cohesion and footballing identity as key strengths.

“We enjoy the football we play. When we play our football, we can be a force against any team, any country we come up against.”

She further downplayed any sense of nervousness before the match.

“There’s no fear whatsoever within our camp. We believe in ourselves, and we’ll see the performance we put out tomorrow. We play our best football when we believe in ourselves,” she added. “It’s an amazing occasion for us all.”
