Sunderland AFC has reportedly reached an agreement with RC Lens to bring Ghanaian international midfielder Salis Abdul Samed to the English Championship on a loan deal, according to sources from Le Parisien and Foot Mercato.
Abdul Samed, 24, had been on the market throughout the summer, drawing interest from several French clubs, including FC Nantes, Stade Brestois, and AS Saint-Etienne. However, in an unexpected move, the talented midfielder is set to depart France for a season-long stint with Sunderland.
The midfielder found himself sidelined under the new management of Will Still at RC Lens, being placed in the "loft," which indicated his availability for transfer. Despite considerable interest from Ligue 1 clubs, Abdul Samed's journey will now continue in England under the guidance of Sunderland's manager, Régis Le Bris, formerly of FC Lorient.
The loan deal, which notably does not include an option for Sunderland to purchase Abdul Samed permanently, is seen as an opportunity for the Ghanaian to gain valuable playing time and reignite his career. He is expected to arrive on Wearside shortly to undergo his medical examination.
Abdul Samed's addition to Sunderland's squad is anticipated to strengthen their midfield as they aim for promotion in the fiercely competitive Championship.
