Ghanaian forward Deabeas Owusu-Sekyere delivered a game-changing performance off the bench to help Zhejiang Professional secure a vital 2-2 draw against Shanghai Port in the Chinese Super League on Saturday.
The 25-year-old Dutch-born Ghanaian came on as a substitute in the 56th minute, replacing Lei Tong, and made an immediate impact with two key assists that sparked a dramatic second-half comeback at the Huanglong Sports Centre.
Zhejiang found themselves trailing by two goals after a dominant first-half display from Shanghai Port. Brazilian forward Gabriel Airton de Souza opened the scoring before the half-hour mark, and after the break, compatriot Leonardo Nascimento Lopes de Souza doubled the visitors' lead in the 51st minute.
But the momentum shifted following Owusu-Sekyere’s introduction. His sharp link-up play and vision breathed life into Zhejiang's attack.
In the 80th minute, he set up Qianglong Tao, who slotted home to give the hosts hope. Then, deep into stoppage time, Owusu-Sekyere provided another precise assist, this time for Franko Andrijašević, who fired in the equaliser to cap a thrilling comeback.
Saturday’s performance marked a high point in Owusu-Sekyere’s season, as he now boasts two assists in eleven league appearances for Zhejiang Professional. His display is likely to cement his status as a key impact player for the club as the campaign progresses.
