Ghanaian winger Ernest Nuamah made his long-awaited return to action on Sunday, featuring for Olympique Lyonnais in their 4-2 victory over Stade Rennais in Ligue 1.
The 22-year-old winger had been sidelined since April 2025 after suffering a serious ACL injury that kept him out for more than a year. After 391 days on the sidelines and 54 missed matches, he finally returned to competitive action, coming off the bench for the final minutes at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
Though his playing time was limited, the appearance marked a significant milestone in his recovery and the end of a long rehabilitation journey.
Nuamah’s comeback comes as a major boost for the Ghana national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in United States, Mexico, and Canada. Prior to his injury, he was an important part of Ghana’s qualification campaign.
With uncertainty over the fitness of Mohammed Kudus, Nuamah’s return offers added attacking options and renewed optimism for head coach Carlos Queiroz.
He is now expected to gradually rebuild full match sharpness as he looks to play a bigger role for both Lyon and Ghana in the months ahead.
