Ghanaian young attacker Mohammed Gadafi Fuseini scored to salvage a crucial away win for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise against FC Twente in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening.
Royale Union Saint-Gilloise recorded their first victory of the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League phase against the Dutch Eredivisie side at the Grolsch Veste Stadium.
The visitors took an early advantage through Franjo Ivanovic in the 6th minute, but it was later ruled offside after a VAR check by the referee.
Five minutes later, Mohammed Fuseini brilliantly opened the scoring for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise when he found space just outside the penalty area after getting on the end of a sweet pass from Ousseynou Niang.
The 22-year-old's line striker helped the Belgian club to secure an important away win, which has extended the winless run of FC Twente to five matches.
The former Right to Dream Academy graduate lasted for 87 minutes before he was replaced by Belgian international Elton Kabangu.
It was his first-ever goal in the UEFA Europa League competition, and he has already netted four goals for the Yellow and Blue lads in the Belgian Jupilier Pro League in his debut season.
Mohammed Fuseini is the wonderkid at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise
In his debut season's campaign, Mohammed Fuseini has been an instant performer for the Belgian club, emerging as the club's leading top scorer in all competitions with five goals.
He has featured in 17 matches for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the ongoing season's campaign.
Mohammed Fuseini, who is yet to feature for Ghana at any level, is currently among the players considered for the Black Stars rebuilding process under Otto Addo after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
He joined the Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a long-term contract from Austrian Bundesliga side Sturm Graz for a transfer fee of €2 million.
