Premier League side Everton have opened formal negotiations with French outfit OGC Nice over the potential signing of Ghanaian centre-back Kojo Peprah Oppong, according to a report by Africa Foot.

The 21-year-old, who recently made his debut for Ghana during the October international break against Comoros in Accra, has emerged as a top defensive target for Everton ahead of next season.

Club representatives reportedly travelled to France last weekend for initial discussions with Nice officials, and sources indicate that the Toffees have tabled an €8 million bid for the highly rated defender.

Nice are said to be open to selling Oppong but prefer that he remain in Ligue 1 until the end of the season — a condition Everton are reportedly willing to accept.

Oppong joined Nice in July 2024 from Swedish side IFK Norrköping for around €1 million and has since developed into one of the club’s most consistent performers, logging nearly 1,000 minutes across 12 appearances this term.

Scouts have lauded the Kumasi-born defender for his tactical awareness, composure, and acceleration, with his performances earning him widespread recognition across Europe.

Reports suggest personal terms have already been discussed, with Everton prepared to offer Oppong a five-year deal worth approximately €2.5 million per season.

Everton manager David Moyes is said to be driving the move as part of his plan to rejuvenate the squad with younger, dynamic players.

Oppong’s potential arrival would add much-needed depth and competition to an Everton backline that has struggled with inconsistency throughout the campaign.
