The former Hamburger SV flanksman has ended his three-year marriage with the German second-tier outfit ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window

FC Kaiserslautern have parted ways with Ghanaian winger Aaron Opoku after spending three seasons together in the German football competitions.

The 26-year-old widesman, who is hotly being pursued by the Major League Soccer (MLS) side St. Louis City SC, is likely to join the American outfit next season as he is currently in the free agency pool ahead of the summer transfer window.

A club's statement read: ''Attacker Aaron Opoku is leaving 1. FC Kaiserslautern after three years with the Red Devils. The 26-year-old's contract at Betzenberg expires at the end of the season.''

''Over the past three seasons, the Hamburg native, who transferred from his hometown club Hamburger SV to Betze, has made 61 competitive appearances for the Red Devils – 55 second-division matches and six DFB Cup appearances for 1. FC Kaiserslautern, including last summer's cup final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. In these 61 matches, he was directly involved in 17 goals (seven goals and ten assists).''

Before parting ways with the Fritz-Walter-Stadion campaigners, Opoku made over 60 appearances for FC Kaiserslautern during his three-year spells in the German football competitions.

The Hamburg-born winger is still eligible to play for Ghana on the international stage despite featuring for the Germany U-19 &  U-20 national youth teams.
