Former Germany international Gerald Asamoah has paid a visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during his stay in Ghana following his recent national honour from the German President.
Asamoah, who was this week decorated with the Federal Cross of Merit by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Accra, visited the Ashanti monarch to formally introduce his humanitarian initiatives and discuss plans to expand his foundation’s medical outreach.
The Ghana-born football legend, widely regarded as a symbol of unity between Ghana and Germany, established the Gerald Asamoah Foundation for Children with Heart Diseases in 2007. The charity supports life-saving cardiac surgeries for children by flying in top German medical professionals to operate on young patients each year.
Asamoah revealed that his meeting with the Asantehene forms part of efforts to extend the foundation’s operations from Accra to Kumasi, with plans underway to collaborate with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II warmly welcomed Asamoah and his delegation, commending the former Schalke 04 forward for his continued commitment to humanitarian service.
The King also encouraged him to “continue this noble mission” of giving hope to Ghanaian families and deepening cooperation between Ghana and Germany through health and social projects.
