Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu says his impressive run of form at AS Monaco this season comes as no surprise to him, crediting hard work and discipline for his resurgence.

The Black Stars centre-back endured a frustrating spell last season, managing just 24 appearances in all competitions for the French side. He was mostly used as a backup option, Salisu’s last start in the 2023/24 season came back in February.

Fast forward to this season, and the 26-year-old has re-established himself as a key cog in Monaco’s backline, starting the club’s last seven matches and delivering consistently solid performances.

“I gave myself the chance to earn this spot by working hard, and that's why I'm not surprised to be playing regularly now,” Salisu stated. “In training, I'm improving and making sure to stay as disciplined as possible and I've been doing that since the restart.”

The Ghana international has featured six times in Ligue 1 so far this season, scoring once, while also making three appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

Since joining Monaco from Southampton in the summer of 2023 on a five-year deal, Salisu has made 46 appearances for the Principality club, contributing four goals and one assist.
