Ghana attacker John Antwi has landed himself a league medal after beating Ismaily 2-1 at away in the Egyptian Premier League.
The 24-year-old forward helped his side to secured their 38th Egyptian Premier League title after a win over his former side.
The Red Devils clinched the title after Zamalek drew 1-1 with Al Masry. Friday’s results put the Red Castle on top of league standings, seven points clear of second-placed Zamalek with only two rounds remaining.
Al Ahly needed only nine minutes to open the scoring. Momen Zakaria’s header rebounded from the post for Ramadan Sobhy to convert into Ismaily’s net putting Al Ahly in the lead.
Three minutes later, Al Ahly doubled their lead through a freekick by Walid Soliman to make it 2-0 for the guests.
Ismaily reduced the deficit in the 18th minute, as Ghana international Emmanuel Banahene found Islam Gamal’s cross to head the ball into Ekramy’s net.
Around the half-hour mark, Al Ahly wasted a chance to make it 3-1 after Sobhy dribbled past Ismaily defense, and passed the ball to Soliman but Ismaily defense managed to divert it.
The hosts were awarded a freekick on the edge of the box after a challenge by Ahmed Fathi, but Hosny Abd-Rabou sent it over the bar.
Four minutes to the break, John Antwi missed a chance to double his side’s lead after he found Soliman’s cross but he failed to send it past Ismaily defenders as the first half ended 2-1 for Al Ahly.
Antwi joined the Red Devils in the 2014/15 season from Ismaily.
