The former Vision FC stalwart guardsman has sealed a sensational move to the Boras Arena outfit ahead of the next season's campaign.
Swedish Allsvenskan side IF Elfsborg have announced the signing of Ghanaian defender Terry Yegbe from Finnish top-tier club SJK for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old centre-back joined the Yellow and Black lads on contract which keeps him at the club until the summer of 2028, after passing the mandatory medical examination earlier today.
The club's official statement reads “IF Elfsborg is happy to welcome Terry Yegbe as a new player in yellow and black. Terry joins in January 2024 and has signed a contract that runs through the 2028 season.”
His scintillating performances in Finland has earned him the mega transfer to IF Elfsborg after spending just two seasons at SJK Seinäjoki.
Yegbe started his football career at Ghanaian side Kickers FC before moving to West African Football Academy (WAFA) in 2018. He later joined Division One League side Vision FC before moving to Finland to ply trade with SJK Seinäjoki.
“I am so excited to be here. IF Elfsborg offers a great environment where a player like me can continue to develop and build my confidence,” Terry Yegbe said after completing the mega move.
“I actually started following IF Elfsborg already when Michael Baidoo came here. Both he and I have played in Vision FC so we know each other” he added.
Yegbe, who describes himself as very calm with the ball and direct in everything he does on the field. This summer, he also gained international attention when he threw a throw-in via the goalkeeper into the goal, which was however noted as an own goal.
“No one knew I could throw so far. We were down by a goal, so in the final minutes I told everyone to go into the box and just threw,” he concluded.
Yegbe was part of the Ghana U23 team that played at the 2023 Africa U23 Cup of Nations in Morocco in July this year. He made three appearances for the Black Meteors at the continental tournament.
He made a total of 29 appearances across all competitions for SJK Seinäjoki with a goal and three assists during his two-year stay in Finland.
Yegbe will join his new teammates including Ghanaian trio Michael Baidoo, Jalal Abdulai and Emmanuel Boateng, who are already in IF Elfsborg's fold in January 2024.
