Former England football legend Gary Lineker has showered praise on Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, describing him as a “special kid” following his game-changing performance in Leicester City’s thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Southampton.

The Ghanaian winger came off the bench with Leicester trailing 2-0 and immediately made a significant impact, assisting the goal that initiated the Foxes' remarkable fightback. Issahaku's presence was undeniable, registering seven touches in the opposition's box — more than any other player during the match.

Issahaku nearly scored himself with a powerful shot that rattled the crossbar and later earned a crucial penalty after his header was handled, allowing Jamie Vardy to equalize. The dramatic comeback was sealed when Jordan Ayew netted the winner in the dying moments.

Lineker, a Leicester City icon, couldn't hide his admiration for the 21-year-old. Reflecting on Issahaku's performance, Lineker said, “What a comeback. What a win. The game really changed when Abdul Fatawu came on. As a Leicester fan, my kids follow Leicester as well. Every time we see the teamsheet and he’s not in it, we go, ‘oh no, not again. Why is he not playing? This kid is special.’”

Despite his standout showing, questions have been raised about Issahaku's limited starts, especially given his undeniable energy and creativity. His critical assist and attacking threat were instrumental in securing Leicester’s win, further boosting his reputation in English football.

Fatawu will aim to maintain his impressive form as Leicester City prepares to host Nottingham Forest at the King Power Stadium on Friday night.
