Ghana international goalkeeper Richard Ofori has made it clear that retirement is not on his mind, expressing his full commitment to his current club, AmaZulu FC, in the South African Betway Premier League.
The 31-year-old former Orlando Pirates shot-stopper has enjoyed a strong campaign with AmaZulu, keeping nine clean sheets in 22 appearances during the just-ended 2024/25 season. His consistency between the posts saw him displace long-time number one, Veli Mothwa, as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
In an interview with KICK OFF, Ofori stressed that while he is planning for the future, he is far from considering retirement and remains focused on contributing to AmaZulu’s ambitions.
"I'm thinking about it [retirement] in the sense of planning ahead, you know—but not because I’m thinking of retiring soon, no. I believe as a goalkeeper, I still have many years to play,” he said.
“I’ve recently joined this beautiful family at AmaZulu, and it’s a big team with big ambitions. The environment here is amazing—the players, the management, everyone is supportive. I’m really enjoying my football here.”
Ofori emphasized that his goal is to help the team achieve success in the upcoming 2025/26 season.
“I’m working hard to help the team reach its targets and fulfil its potential. Overall, I’m very happy,” he added.
AmaZulu finished sixth in the 2024/25 campaign, narrowly missing out on continental competition. With Ofori in fine form, the club will be aiming for a top-four finish next season and a return to CAF inter-club tournaments.
Meanwhile, Ofori has been absent from the Ghana national team setup since the Black Stars’ disappointing group-stage exit at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
