German-born Ghanaian centre-back Hendry Blank has completed a move to 2. Bundesliga side Hannover 96, in a deal that sees the promising defender seal a one-year loan deal that includes a purchase clause.
The highly-rated 20-year-old, who spent his formative years at Borussia Dortmund, put pen to paper this week after passing his medical and agreeing personal terms with the Lower Saxony-based club.
Blank, known for his composure on the ball and reading of the game, has been tipped as one of the brightest defensive talents with dual eligibility for both Germany and Ghana.
He featured prominently for Dortmund’s youth and reserve sides before sealing a €7 million move to Red Bull Salzburg in February 2024, signing through to 2028, but after struggling for minutes in Austria, he’s now opted for a loan switch to Hannover 96 in search of regular first-team action.
Hannover 96, who are eyeing promotion back to the Bundesliga, see Blank as a long-term project who can be integrated gradually into the first team while providing depth and versatility at the back.
The move is also expected to increase Blank’s visibility on the Ghanaian radar, with Black Stars scouts reportedly tracking his progress closely. With Ghana’s defence entering a transition phase, Blank could be a future call-up contender if he continues his upward trajectory.
