Venezia midfielder, Alfred Duncan has revealed that he refused to return to the fold of the Black Stars after quitting the national team.

Duncan made nine appearances for Ghana before retiring from international football. He played his first match for the Black Stars in 2016 during an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Mozambique.

However, the appointment of Chris Hughton and current gaffer - Otto Addo has opened a pathway to an international return for Duncan, the man who has is known as a midfield kingpin in Europe, stated he still stand by his decision not to return to the senior nation team, despite both coaches trying to "roll out the red carpet" for him.

"Yes I think for the past two years the two new coaches that came both reached out to me and then they wanted to work with me but for me it was very difficult to go back to the national team because the expectation were really high and I had already made a decision were I was stable with I wanted to be in the position not going to the national team also give me other benefit," he told Sporty FM.

"During the international break I am able to spend more time with my family as well for me that was one of the best decisions I ever made because with my family I was having less time with them and making that decision really helped me a lot spending more time with them so I wasn't willing to make a step back to abandon that situation.

"It was really difficult for me to change my mind, so I just decided to stick to my initial idea of not going back to the national team so that I could spend more time with my family," he added.
