Ghanaian striker Inaki Williams has expressed a strong commitment to Athletic Bilbao, stating his desire to remain at the club for the entirety of his career.
The 30-year-old, who was born in the Basque Country to Ghanaian parents, joined the club at the age of 20 from Basconia and has since risen through the youth ranks to become the vice-captain of the first team.
With over 400 first-team appearances to his name, Williams holds a La Liga record for the most consecutive games played at 251. His notable achievements include scoring the decisive goal in the 2020–21 Supercopa de España and contributing to the club’s first Copa del Rey title in 40 years during the 2023–24 season.
"I would like to be a one-club man and spend my entire career at Athletic," Williams told AS. "It would be a source of pride for me."
His unique first name was given in honor of a Caritas volunteer in Bilbao who helped his parents when they arrived in Spain. Initially, his family had been advised by a lawyer to claim they were from Liberia due to the civil war there.
Inaki’s younger brother, Nico, is also following in his footsteps as a footballer, having been developed through the ranks at Athletic Bilbao as a forward.
