Former Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew makes a stunning return to competitive football after months out to sign for Dutch topflight side NAC Breda and has revealed his personal ambitions in this new challenge

The 36-year-old has joined the Yellow and Black lads on a free transfer for the remainder of the 2025–26 season's campaign with an option of renewal based on his performance as he looks forward to earn call-up to the Black Stars for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ayew has been unattached since the end of the 2024–25 season after leaving French club Le Havre and he has been training with his father's club Nania FC to stay fit to return to the turf for the past months.

Reacting to the highly-anticipated move, the Ghana’s most capped player says the club are currently sitting on tenterhooks and are having relegation staring at them and so he is willing to offer any level support to help them remain in the Eredivise.

“I'm someone who really enjoys challenges, both personally and as part of a team. I find that here at NAC. I want to do everything I can to help the club and my teammates. We're in a situation where staying in the Eredivisie is the only thing that matters. The mental aspect is perhaps the most important thing in this situation. Together with our supporters, we must fight this battle head-on in the second half of the season.”

Ayew made his mark, particularly at Olympique de Marseille, Swansea City, and West Ham United. He has almost 600 official appearances in the Champions League, Ligue 1, Ligue 2, Premier League, Championship, and the Turkish Super Lig, scoring over 160 goals in those competitions.

NAC Breda currently lies at the bottom of the Dutch Eredivisie with just 13 points and Andre is expected to make his debut on January 10, against FC Groningen.

He has capped 120 times for the senior national team of Ghana with 24 goals to his credit.
